Responsibilities
Position Summary:
Combine knowledge of nutrition, diet therapy, psychology, health and wellness management, and marketing to plan, implement, and evaluate services for nutrition education and counseling for ambulatory patients and consumers. Teaches all portions of health education classes. Participates in planning and implementation of Education Services programs as related to areas of expertise and as a member of Education Services division of Woodland Clinic Medical Group.
Responsibilities may include:
- Provides nutrition counseling to patients.
- Applies adult learning techniques to one-on-one patients and groups in a class setting.
- Assesses patient for nutrition counseling and makes appropriate selection of counseling technique and process.
- Plans and develops curriculum for health education programs.
- Participates in continued education related to nutrition education.
- Establishes environment conducive to behavior change and transfer of education.
- Works with manager and education assistants to ensure sufficient and appropriate office and class materials.
- Conveys confidential patient information back to referring primary care physician.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in dietetics or nutrition from an accredited college or university.
- Registered Dietitian (RD) status within one year of employment.
- Effective listening and verbal skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals as well as groups.
- Ability to perform skin fold measurement and blood glucose monitoring required.
- Knowledge of age and gender specific characteristics.
- Must be able to apply adult learning principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with medical information systems and work processing desirable.
