The posted compensation range of $72.44 - $72.44 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Responsibilities
Job Summary:
- The clinical Laboratory Scientist has a California State license and performs tests requiring the exercise of independent judgment, assigned administrative duties and responsibility under the general direction of the Laboratory Director, Laboratory Manager, and Laboratory Supervisor. This includes all the necessary processes ancillary to such testing including, but not limited to, phlebotomy, equipment and glassware maintenance, reporting of findings, record keeping, reagent monitoring and ordering, quality assurance and quality improvement procedures, development of new or modified test procedures, and necessary administrative duties as may be assigned. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will perform only those tests for which the scientist is qualified by education, training, and/or experience.
Job Duties:
- Performs technical procedures maintaining accuracy, precision, and meeting department time frames.
- Reports and interprets lab results accurately meeting turnaround time exceptions.
- Maintains reagents, supplies, and equipment for the department.
- Assist with the ordering, collecting and processing of laboratory specimens when needed.
- Performs projects and writes policies/procedures or reports, within time frame given.
- Documenting and/or gathering data as required.
- Participation in the Laboratory QA/QI program
- Incident documentation and reporting.
- Assist with answering phones and front office buzzer when needed.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new employees.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a biological science.
Licensure:
- State of California license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Ability to:
Work as a team member to meet team goals and objectives.
Work effectively under multiple demands and adjust priorities as circumstances require to meet turnaround time goals and staffing needs of the department.
Maintain a high degree of accuracy and precision on a consistent basis in the performance of laboratory procedures.
Treat co-workers, patients, visitors, and the public with dignity and respect.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all medical staff.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Troubleshoot procedures and instrumentation and problem-solve effectively.
Work a flexible schedule and be willing to work additional hours as needed for the provision of quality patient care.
Walk, stand, stoop, and lift (physically able)
Walk and stand for 50% of the shift.
Demonstrate good manual dexterity.
Maintain sufficient visual and auditory acuity.
Recognize that color blindness may limit the testing that may be performed.
Knowledge of:
- Modern clinical laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Proper safe techniques in the handling of hazardous materials, biological specimens, and aseptic technique.
- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and how it applies to patient privacy and confidentiality.
