Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our HIM Specialist at CHI Williston Health, you will help clinical teams and hospital departments maintain the integrity, accuracy, and availability of patient health records so they can provide seamless, high-quality care and ensure regulatory compliance.

Every day you will serve as a vital resource within our HIM department, navigating complex workflows to bridge the gap between patient data and clinical needs. You will be expected to independently manage the entire medical record lifecycle—from document imaging and chart analysis to resolving data integrity issues—while acting as a subject matter expert for providers and internal stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you must have demonstrated experience in advanced HIM functions, including Master Patient Index (MPI) management, medical record deficiency analysis, and strict adherence to HIPAA and regulatory standards in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

  • End-to-End Lifecycle Management: Oversee the full spectrum of the medical record lifecycle, including high-volume document imaging (prep, scan, index) and rigorous quality assurance.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Chart Auditing: Analyze medical records for clinical completeness, assign and track provider deficiencies, and ensure all processes meet strict HIPAA and regulatory standards.
  • Data Integrity & Troubleshooting: Proactively maintain the Master Patient Index (MPI) by investigating and resolving complex data discrepancies, such as duplicate or unlinked medical record numbers.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Act as an expert resource for providers and internal stakeholders, facilitating smooth workflows for rejected order reconciliation and compliant Release of Information (ROI) processing.
Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate General Studies, upon hire or
  • High School GED General Studies, upon hire and
  • 1-3 years Minimum of 2 years of Health Information Management experience in an acute care or healthcare setting or progress towards a RHIT, RHIA or progress towards a healthcare or business college degree program with relevant related experience., upon hire and
  • Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and HIM applications required , upon hire and


Preferred

  • Associates Other Associates Degree in health-related field (RHIT) or completion of healthcare degree program (RHIA) preferred upon hire., upon hire and
  • Experience with data integrity, chart analysis, and record completion workflows preferred, upon hire
  • Registered Health Information Administrator, upon hire or
  • Registered Health Information Technician, upon hire
