Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Safety Manager, you will manage, plan, facilitate, and advise hospital leadership on issues relating to Environment of Care, Emergency Management, and Security, ensuring compliance with all required standards and regulations.

Every day you will ensure adherence to TJC, OSHA, CDPHE, EPA, DOT, and NFPA standards, conduct life safety education and fire drills, and serve as the on-site security contact and facility contract liaison for security vendors.

To be successful in this role, you will possess comprehensive expertise in safety management, strong leadership and advisory skills, and a thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and health codes, standards, and regulations.

  • Manage, plan, facilitate, and advise hospital leadership and staff on issues relating to the safety and security of the facility.
  • Conduct an annual and comprehensive risk assessment and program review for the EC, EM, and Security. Develop a formal report, and present the report to the EC Committee, the hospital leadership team, and to the Board of Trustees/Quality Committee of the Board.
  • Direct responsibility for development and maintenance of all hospital EC, EM, and Security policies and procedures. Coordinates compliance and performance improvement activities within the EC (e.g. Hazardous Materials and Waste, Medical Equipment, Fire/Life Safety, Utilities...).
  • Serve as hospital chairperson of EC/Safety Committee, with direct oversight and potential cochairperson of related subcommittees (e.g. Safety Patient Handling, Workplace Violence...).
  • Conducts safety inspections (typically weekly) to identify risks in the environment and facilitates solutions.
  • Issues are tracked to help identify trends and hospitalwide solutions are then facilitated. Results of safety inspections are reported to the EC/Safety Committee.

This position will float between St. Anthony North Hospital and Longmont United Hospital

Job Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Science, or related discipline
  • Five (5) years of experience in a safety related role within a healthcare organization, including comprehending, interpreting, and implementing procedures and programs in compliance with hospital guidelines and healthcare regulatory agencies

Preferred

  • A current working knowledge of The Joint Commission or other similar agencies, Centers for Medicare/Medicaid, NFPA, and/or OSHA standards and regulations
  • Employee management experience
  • FEMA Incident Command, Certified Healthcare Safety Professional, or other strongly related certifications
