Overview

As our Medical Surgical Nurse at CHI Mercy Health Valley City,  you’ll excel in your nursing career by providing care to patients admitted to our unit. Most of your patients come in from ER and swing bed providing you with the opportunity to build on your education and experience.

Responsibilities
  • Except to deliver care to 4-6 patients per shift 
  • Administer medications, change dressings, monitor vital signs, and chart with timely documentation 
  • Collaborate with a variety of other healthcare professionals such as social work, care coordination, physical therapy, occupational therapy, lab, respiratory therapy, and imaging.
  • Performs and documents assessments as stated on Patient Care Plan and/or as patient condition requires, i.e. admission system assessment, vital signs, intake and output, ADLs, etc.
  • Identifies discharge planning/education needs as early as possible upon admission, documents and plans in order to meet those needs.
  • Completes all documentation according to standard operating procedures. 
  • Performs personal cares according to standard operating procedure.
  • Collects and accurately charges for all patient care items and/or services. Charge sheet is completed at the end of each shift.
    Assesses, identifies and communicates unit staffing needs for current and oncoming shifts and assigns admissions and/or transfers based on patient acuity level, nurse/patient ratio, and nursing skill levels.

Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license that allows you to practice in our state of North Dakota.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified through American Heart Association (AHA) required. 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • ACLS and PALS from American Heart Association recommended.
