Hospice Volunteer Coordinator
The posted compensation range of $30.91 - $45.98 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
Responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Hospice service volunteer program, including determining needs for volunteers, placing volunteers, training volunteers, and working to increase and enhance volunteer retention. Work includes directing, overseeing and evaluating the work of volunteers who provide offsite services in patient homes. Some program planning and implementation is included. Maintaining volunteer hours is essential to the Hospice program's compliance with Medicare requirements for reimbursements. As such, the Volunteer Coordinator-Hospice must ensure volunteer hour requirements are met, volunteer training is adequately documented, and make continual efforts to recruit and retain volunteers.
Work requires strong communication and time management skills, as well as the ability to effectively recruit, screen, place and evaluate an adequate volunteer work force.
- Assesses patient/family need for volunteers and facilitates volunteer placement.
- Places qualified volunteers in the patient support or program support areas according to policy.
- Handles concerns and promotes good relations between staff, volunteers, and patient/families.
- Documents referral placement activities.
- Informs team members of volunteer placement.
- Serves as liaison between volunteer services and the interdisciplinary team.
Job Requirements
Required
- Two years of recent related work experience, including supervisory experience with employees or volunteers, that demonstrates the attainment of the requisite job knowledge, skills and abilities. and
Preferred
- College level coursework in communications and English and Experience in public relations, as a hospital volunteer, or coordinating volunteer and/or community outreach activities, upon hire and
- Practical experience in recruiting, screening and interviewing
