Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY  

Serves as the pharmacy team leader for a specific service line, developing and maintaining clinical expertise in the specialty area.  Incumbents function as the department representative for Pharmaceutical Services in their specific service line, and participate in departmental and hospital programs directed at improving patient care standards. Provides education, mentoring, and coaching for staff development, residents, students and interns for the service line.  Provides direction and solves problems for specific pharmacy service product lines and communicates actions with department managers. 

Incumbents are also accountable for keeping professional skills current; developing and maintaining professional contacts with appropriate community resources; participating in continuous performance improvement; assisting in the orientation of new staff and supervision of student and volunteers and consistently making efforts to achieve extraordinary results.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Performs the essential job functions of a pharmacist in accordance with the Pharmacist job description, including teaching and mentoring staff pharmacists, interns, residents, technicians and non-pharmacy staff for the service line.
  • Develops and leads the pharmacy team that serves their specific pharmacy service product line.
  • Participates in performance improvement, quality initiative and research activities.  
  • Serves as the program leader and department representative for Pharmaceutical Services in their specific service product line. 
  • Cultural Sensitivity and Competence:  Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services.  Patient Population Served:  Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department’s defined specific populations served.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree or enrolled in a program to obtain this degree.
  • Completion of Pharmacy Practice Residency and/or Specialty Residency or equivalent experience.
  • Clinical experience with 3 years of recent direct patient care that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities preferred.
  • NICU experience is strongly desired.

Licensure/Certification

  • Licensure as a registered pharmacist by the Washington State Board of Pharmacy. 
  • Membership in at least one of the following professional organizations:  ASHP, ASCP, WSPA, APHA, ACCP and specialty practice group(s).  
  • Current healthcare provider BLS certification is required.
  • ACLS within six months of hire (Inpatient Pharmacy only; does not apply to Coumadin Clinic)
