Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Healthcare Assistant I, you will help patients at St. Joseph's Medical Center move safely and comfortably between various hospital departments so they can receive their necessary medical care with ease and dignity.

Every day you will transport patients via wheelchair, gurney, and/or bed, communicating effectively with clinical staff to report patient status and condition. You will be expected to perform patient care tasks as directed, assist with clerical functions, and ensure a smooth flow of scheduled exams within the department.

To be successful in this role you must possess strong communication and customer service skills, have the physical ability to transport patients consistently, demonstrate competency in patient care for various age groups, and have basic computer skills.

  • Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently perform tasks and procedures according to Medical Center policy and procedure. Including, but not limited to:
  • Performs patient care tasks as directed by Radiologist, Supervisor, or Manager.
  • Demonstrates the skills and knowledge to support the accurate data collection and documentation of pertinent information in a timely manner: Consent forms, doctor's orders, laboratory tests, patient's current drug formulary.
  • Participates as a team member, communicating respect for patient, family, clients and other members of the Care Team.
  • Contributes to the management of the department by assuming responsibility of specific support functions i.e., preparing exam room, assisting with patient exam, record keeping/clerical functions for PVL.
  • Ensures that inpatient and outpatient exams are scheduled in a manner that enables the department to run smoothly and efficiently.
Job Requirements

Required

  • Experience with transferring patients from rooms to different areas within the department.
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, American Heart Association


Preferred

  • High School Graduate or GED
