Job Summary and Responsibilities

  • Manages Daily Operations & Compliance: Plans, manages, and evaluates the daily operations of Sterile Processing Departments, ensuring all activities comply with manufacturer recommendations, professional standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements, minimizing infection risk.
  • Ensures Patient & Customer Satisfaction: Accountable for timely and effective infection control processes, sterility assurance, product availability, and maintaining advanced knowledge of surgical instrument processing and relevant infection control methodologies.
  • Oversees Staff & Performance Management: Schedules, supervises, evaluates, and develops staff, addressing performance issues, ensuring optimal staffing levels, and providing ongoing education to meet changing standards.
  • Manages Budget & Resources: Participates in budget preparation, monitors/controls expenses, manages instrument inventory (including associated technology), and collaborates with clinical areas to meet patient needs.
  • Ensures Quality & Regulatory Adherence: Monitors and assesses operations for process improvement opportunities, ensures compliance with safety, infection control, and sterility standards, and interprets/applies internal and external legal/regulatory requirements.
  • Drives Policy & Strategic Development: Serves on teams to develop and update policies, procedures, and workflows, and participates in short- and long-term planning to support business objectives.

Job Requirements

Education/Work Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the duties of the position, graduation from an accredited CS Technician course, and four years of progressively responsible related work experience (preferably in a hospital environment) that demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities, including a minimum of two years in a supervisory or management capacity.

Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Graduation from a school of nursing from an accredited college or university is preferred.

Licensure/Certification

Current certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) at hire, or within one year of date of hire, is required.

Possession of SPD Supervisor or SPD Manager certification is preferred.

Current healthcare provider BLS certification.
