Job Summary and Responsibilities

As an Electrophysiology Specialist, you will be a central figure performing complex electrophysiology studies and related cardiac procedures, meticulously operating specialized equipment to diagnose and treat cardiac arrhythmias. You will play a vital role in providing critical diagnostic information and therapeutic interventions that directly impact patient outcomes.

Every day, you will expertly prepare patients for invasive EP procedures, operate advanced mapping systems, conduct device interrogations, and assist electrophysiologists with ablations and implants. You will also monitor patient vitals, interpret ECGs and electrograms, maintain detailed records, and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols within the cardiac cath lab.

To be successful in this role, you will combine nationally recognized certification (RCES, RCIS or equivalent), extensive EP experience, and a profound understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and arrhythmia recognition. You will demonstrate exceptional critical thinking and meticulous attention to detail, thriving in a dynamic, high-acuity environment delivering advanced cardiac care.

  • Assists Electrophysiologists in the performance of EP lab procedures by: analyzing electrocardiograph data, performing program stimulation of the heart, inducing and terminating cardiac arrhythmia by overdrive pacing or DC cardioversion, applying energy to catheters for purposes of arrhythmia ablation, creating 3D maps of cardiac chambers to evaluate electrical conduction of tachycardias.
  • Assists physician in instrumentation, pacing and recording activities during EP procedures and facilitates proper recording and storage of data.
  • Follows programmed electrical stimulation protocols and measurements related to the functional properties of the conduction system and induced arrhythmias.
  • Assesses the patient for potential and actual physiological and behavioral changes pre-procedure, intra-procedure and post-procedure; communicates changes to team; responds appropriately to changes in patient; anticipates potential adverse response, recognizes complications and intervenes appropriately; documents physiological findings, interventions and device evaluation.
  • May perform device interrogation of inpatients and post-operative device interrogation.
  • May occasionally perform the duties of a Cardiovascular Technologist as needed.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies including sterile trays; selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters; implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment; troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
  • Performs post-procedure access site tasks, in the role of either circulating technologist or scrub technologist.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Associates Degree in Cardiovascular Technology or related field or successful completion of a Radiological Technologist program and one year of related cardiovascular technology work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities.
  • Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Certification through the Washington State Department of Health OR
  • Current licensure as a Radiologic Technologist through the Washington State Department of Health
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) OR
  • Registered Technologist Radiography ARRT
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare BLS Certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification

Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
