Responsibilities

**Sign-on Bonus Available**

Performs ultrasound examinations in accordance with department protocols and applicable regulatory requirements, and assumes responsibility for the safe, efficient and proper operation of ultrasound equipment.  Work is performed with respect to various specialty/sub-specialty areas (i.e. cardiac, general and sub-specialties) in a variety of healthcare settings.   

Incumbents are also accountable for; keeping abreast of VM/FH standards, protocols and procedures relating to the department; keeping skills current; demonstrating evidence of continuing education; attending department, local and national professional meetings; and availing themselves of individualized learning opportunities to stay current on new procedures, equipment or information.

The Non-Registered Sonographer is a temporary classification for employees who are not currently registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers at the time of hire.  Employees have one year from the date of hire to obtain the requisite registration.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited ultrasound program in General diagnostic sonography.
  • Graduation from an accredited (CAAHEP) program is preferred.
  • Completion of a twelve-month internship in diagnostic ultrasound (with at least six months in General ultrasound) or equivalent recent directly-related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities is preferred.

Job Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the current principles, procedures and techniques relating to ultrasound examination and related procedures.
  • Knowledge of the functionality, operation and application of ultrasound equipment.
  • Knowledge of the standards and regulatory requirements applicable to diagnostic ultrasound examination.
  • Knowledge of the content and application of department protocols applicable to ultrasound examinations.
  • Ability to perform procedures in strict compliance with applicable standards, and provide assistance to physicians in executing some techniques (ultrasonic needle guidance).
  • Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position.

Licensure/Certification

  • Registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); 
    • Additional ARDMS registration in either Abdomen, OB/GYN and/or the Breast Ultrasound preferred.
  • Certification in Sonography by the American Association of Radiology Technologists (ARRT).
  • Current healthcare provider BLS Certification.


Sonographer Non-Registered:  Employees who do not have ARDMS registration or ARRT sonography certification (but otherwise meet the qualifications for the core job) must be assigned to this level, and they have a period of one year from the date of hire to obtain it.
