Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Respiratory Care Assistant, you will assist our Respiratory Therapists by maintaining respiratory equipment and supporting patient care procedures directly at the bedside so patients can receive safe, effective, and timely respiratory support, enhancing their comfort and well-being. Your dedication is vital to our mission of compassionate care.
Every day, you will thoughtfully clean, disinfect, and set up a variety of respiratory equipment, ensuring it is ready for safe and effective patient use. You will be expected to precisely test respiratory equipment before delivery to the bedside, assist with select patient care procedures under direct supervision, and work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team to foster a spirit of inclusion.
Responsibilities:
- Equipment Care and Preparation: Thoughtfully clean and disinfect a variety of respiratory equipment, ensuring it is ready for safe and effective patient use.
- Equipment Setup and Testing: Precisely set up and test respiratory equipment, verifying proper function and preparing it for delivery.
- Bedside Equipment Management: Deliver, set up, and change out respiratory equipment at the patient's bedside, demonstrating compassion and respect for each individual.
- Patient Care Support: Under the direct supervision and guidance of a Respiratory Therapist, assist with select patient care procedures and tests such as pulse oximetry, blood gas analysis, or sputum collection.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with Respiratory Therapists and other members of the care team, fostering a spirit of inclusion and working together for the common good.
- Maintenance of Supplies: Assist in organizing and maintaining respiratory therapy supply inventory, ensuring essential items are readily available.
To be successful in this role, you must possess strong attention to detail, a foundational understanding of respiratory care equipment, and a compassionate, collaborative spirit with a commitment to patient safety and well-being.
Job RequirementsQualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant (NA-C), or current enrollment with at least 3rd qtr standing in a therapist-level, Joint Review Committee for Respiratory Therapy Education (JRCRTE)-approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
- Current valid CPR certification required
- Basic computer skills required
- Understanding of respiratory equiment assembly, use and troublshooting
- Working knowledge of respiratory protocols;
- Strong interperonal skills
- The ability to attend to details and ability to remain organized and calm during stressful situations required.
