Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for providing comprehensive and continuous care to patients who require a higher level of monitoring and intervention than a general medical-surgical unit, but are not critically ill enough to require intensive care. The PCU RN utilizes critical thinking skills, advanced assessment techniques, and evidence-based practices to manage complex patients with acute and chronic conditions. The RN collaborates with physicians, other healthcare professionals, and the patient's family to develop and implement individualized care plans, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and a safe and supportive environment.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Patient Assessment and Monitoring: Conducts comprehensive and ongoing assessments of patients' physical, psychological, and social needs.Continuously monitors vital signs, cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic status, respiratory function, neurological status, and other relevant parameters.Interprets assessment data and identifies changes in patient condition, promptly notifying the physician and other appropriate healthcare team members Utilizes advanced monitoring equipment, such as telemetry, arterial lines, central lines, and ventilators, as appropriate.

Medication Administration: Administers medications accurately and safely, adhering to established policies and procedures.Monitors patients for therapeutic and adverse effects of medications.Titrates medications based on established protocols and physician orders.Educates patients and families about medications, including purpose, dosage, and potential side effects.

Treatment and Procedures:Performs a variety of treatments and procedures, including wound care, dressing changes, catheter insertion and maintenance, and respiratory treatments.

Patient and Family Education: Provides comprehensive education to patients and families regarding their condition, treatment plan, medications, and discharge instructions.

Documentation:  Maintains accurate and complete documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record (EHR).

Quality Improvement and Safety: Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and improve outcomes. 

Professional Development: Maintains current knowledge of nursing practice and trends in progressive care.


Qualifications

We require: -

  • Current WA State RN license is required.
  • 1 or more years recent RN experience with acute care patients. 
  • CPR certification is required every two years or as specified by the work. 
  • Other certifications may be required for specialty areas. - Graduation from an accredited school of nursing approved by the Washington State Board of Nursing. Preferred Qualifications: ACLS preferred.
