Responsibilities
The following duties are intended to be representative of the work performed by incumbents in this position and are not all-inclusive. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical extension of position responsibilities. Job duties may vary depending on the clinical section.
Direct Patient Care:
- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Assist patients with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding, and other personal hygiene needs.
- Basic Nursing Care: Monitor and document vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation), observe and report changes in patient condition, including signs and symptoms of disease, and assist with simple wound care and dressing changes. Assist with posturing and range-of-motion exercises.
- Patient Mobility: Assist patients with ambulation, transfers (bed to chair, chair to toilet, etc.), turning, and positioning to prevent pressure sores and promote comfort.
- Specimen Collection and Testing: Collect and process specimens as directed (e.g., blood glucose, urine for specific gravity). Assist with colon screening preparation as directed. Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose, urine dipstick).
- Respiratory Care: Assist with respiratory treatments, including incentive spirometry, oxygen administration (monitoring flow and equipment), and nebulizer treatments. Maintain the integrity of respiratory equipment.
Technical Skills:
- Electrocardiography (ECG/EKG): Perform electrocardiograms according to established protocols.
Qualifications
We require:
- High school diploma or GEDrequired.
- Completion of NA-C training course (clinical requirement may be completed at VM during first week in the NA-R role.
- Good oral and written communication skills required. Basic skills in using a PC required.
- Must be able to lift, move or assist patients using proper body mechanics.
- Theability to occasionally lift or push up to 50 lbs. and pull up to 100 lbs. is also required.
