Responsibilities
Virginia Mason Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Nursing Professional Development Specialist to join our dynamic Emergency Room team. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and skilled educator with a proven track record of developing and implementing effective training programs for nurses in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. The Nursing Professional Development Specialist will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and initiatives to enhance the knowledge, skills, and competencies of the Emergency Room nursing staff. This role requires a strong understanding of adult learning principles, emergency nursing practices, and current trends in healthcare. The specialist will collaborate closely with ER leadership, staff nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities include:
Needs Assessment & Curriculum Development: Conduct needs assessments to identify learning gaps and develop comprehensive educational programs addressing identified needs. This includes designing and delivering training on new procedures, technologies, and evidence-based practices specific to the ER setting.
Program Implementation & Delivery: Implement and deliver engaging and effective educational programs using a variety of methods, including classroom instruction, online modules, simulations, and mentoring.
Evaluation & Improvement: Develop and implement methods to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and make necessary revisions to improve outcomes. Track and analyze data to demonstrate the impact of training on staff performance and patient care.
Orientation & Onboarding: Develop and deliver orientation programs for new ER nurses, ensuring they are adequately prepared for the demands of the role.
Competency Validation: Develop and maintain competency validation processes to ensure staff maintain required skills and knowledge.
Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate effectively with ER leadership, staff nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure alignment of educational initiatives with organizational goals.
Provide mentorship and coaching to individual nurses to support their professional growth and development.
Mentorship & Coaching:tay Current: Maintain current knowledge of best practices in emergency nursing, professional development, and relevant regulations and guidelines.
Maintain Records: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of training programs, participant attendance, and evaluation results.
Qualifications
- WA state RN license, a BSN or equivalent degree, and a minimum of three years of nursing experience.
- Certification in Nursing Professional Development is required within two years of hire.
- The incumbent must possess excellent communication, teaching, group facilitation and presentation skills, demonstrate, and teach new technology, equipment, patient care and standards of care.
- This position requires an individual who will promote high standards of care and model/mentor new as well as experienced staff.
- The incumbent must have knowledge of VM Production System and Lean principles or obtain such knowledge within one year of hire.
Preferred:
Prior experience as an educator and relevant clinical experience. Certification in nursing clinical specialty area is preferred.
