Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary:

In keeping with Marian Medical Center's philosophy, under the direction and supervision of the Operational and/or Medical Director, the Lead Medical Assistant operates in a team with other clinic healthcare providers and support staff. The Lead escorts patients to the exam rooms and assists in determining medical problems. The Lead assists medical providers with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed; taking vital signs, maintaining records and recording test results. In addition, this position assists in the scheduling and supervising of assigned staff, provides ongoing performance feedback and acts as a key communicator between the clinical staff and Site Coordinator. The Lead serves as a primary evaluator for interviews and as a preceptor for newly hired staff and assures all critical tasks are completed per clinic protocols.


Job Requirements

Responsible for smooth transition of care for patients throughout visit

- Will keep patients moving through clinic site in a timely manner 

-Will guide patients through process (registration, weight check, check in with nurse, vitals)

- When needed, is able to assist with tasks for patient care; obtain vitals, get patient items such as blanket, food, pillow

Responsible for tracking and managing Orientation plan for new-hire Medical Assistants

-Will serve as evaluator during interviews

-Will welcome new hire

- Begin Orientation process and give clear plan for orientation

- Available during entire orientation process, as preceptor

- Ensures all critical tasks are completed during orientation period

- Provides ongoing performance feedback

Will serve as a key communicator between clinical staff and supervisor

-Responsible to update and keep current the New Patient Teach spread sheet with all pertinent information, this includes:

-Patient scheduled for Teach as soon as it is approved

Patient scheduled for infusion as soon as directed following teach

-Verify every new patient has: necessary labs/scans/tests/consults prior to scheduling

-Update sections with; language, age, tests, consent, auth status

Responsible to track snack area and re-order/stock items:

- Place orders with Staples for snack area

-Place orders with Marian food services for snack area

-Make sure that snack area is stocked appropriately and per standards (no corrugated cardboard, no supplies on floor, only in appointed storage containers)

-Responsible for office supplies for infusion/injection area:

-Make sure it is stocked appropriately and kept neat

Responsible for tracking ticket requests:

- When made aware of any discrepancies a ticket request is entered into appropriate system: IT Support Center, Facility One Unity, BioMed

- When a ticket is submitted it is logged onto the Maintenance log

- Maintenance Log is tracked and follow up initiated when appropriate

- Responsible for checking status of all department logs

- Monthly check of all department logs for accuracy and completeness

- Notify supervisor for any errors or omissions

- Assist with management of employee education file

- Scan in appropriate documents to be submitted to education files

- Assist with planning, scheduling, of quarterly employee inservice

- Coordinate planning of location, availability of conference room

- Coordinate planning with appointed provider

- Set up Zoom meeting, set up sound and display screen
