The posted compensation range of $26.06 - $36.81 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Medical Assistant, you'll keep the day running smoothly and efficiently for your patients and clinical team.
Every day, you will take the lead on proactively preparing patient charts, ensuring all information is obtained and up-to-date for those seen in our facility. You can expect to have multiple patients daily depending on the number of physicians are on-site.

- Patient Care and Exam Room Responsibilities:
Maintain the exam rooms assuring that they are clean and well stocked with the necessary supplies and medical instruments before the arrival of the first patient.
Prepares the exam rooms for the reception of the patient and according to the needs of the provider and the exam to be performed.
Prepares patients both physically and psychologically for treatment and examinations.
Takes patient vital signs including temperature, blood pressures, pulse, respirations. weight and height and records these findings on the clinicians progress notes. Performs vision and hearing tests for all patients as required and records the results on the progress note.
Assists in the maintenance of accurate and complete patient medical record/chart, including but not limited to the following: updates the Problem Summary Sheet, records vital signs, test results and referrals.
Assists with sterile and non- sterile procedures. Ensures that proper documentation is completed.
Collects, handles, and disposes lab specimens and infectious waste material utilizing proper technique thereby eliminating the spread of infectious diseases in accordance with policy. Labels all patients lab samples with patient name and date collected. Assures the proper handling and storage of the specimen until it is sent to the designated lab
Provides education to patients for procedures such as EKG's, sleep apnea screening, ear lavages and injections. - Medications:
Maintains an inventory of medications and medical supplies. An order will be placed as needed. And entering newly arrived medications into the log prior to storage.
If properly trained, administers medications by intramuscular, subcutaneous and intradermal injection, performs skin tests while demonstrating knowledge in pertinent anatomy and physiology, proper techniques, post treatment and care, choice of equipment, hazards and complications and California Medical Assistant scope of practice.
Upon administration of a medication, the patient's name dosage, date and route of administration of medication shall be recorded in the medication log by the person who administered or dispensed the medication. - Immunizations:
Maintains the Immunization Control Log, entering newly arrived immunizations into the log prior to storage.
Checks the temperature on the refrigerator containing vaccines on a daily basis, noting the results on the form provided.
Administers immunizations following the immunization schedule provided by the county and utilizing proper technique
Understands the immunization schedule and possible side effects with immunizations and can answer patient or parent questions. - Laboratory:
Collects, handles and disposes lab specimens and infectious waste material utilizing proper technique thereby eliminating the spread of infectious disease.
Labels all patient lab samples with patient name and date collected. Ensures the proper handling and storage of the specimen until it is sent to the designated lab.
Completes the laboratory requisition form.
Assures that the provider who requested the lab test reviews and initials the report within 24 hours. - Sterile Processing:
Assists in maintaining sterile instruments on site, as designated - Compliance with Policy and Procedures:
Complies with safety, infection control, Dignity Health Integrity Program, and other organizational policies. (90 day evals - department specific orientation checklists completed; annual evals - annual competency checklists completed).
Complies with the organization's dress code.
Arrives at work on time and consistently, as defined by the Timeliness and Attendance Policy.
Job Requirements
Required
- Completion of Medical Assistant training program
- Basic Life Support (BLS-CPR) within 90 days of hire
Preferred
- 1-3 years medical assistant experience, upon hire or
- Experience preferred in area ofclinic specialty., upon hire and
- Certified/Registered Medical Assistant, upon hire
