Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Technician receives functional guidance from the licensed pharmacists s/he is scheduled to work with. The level of supervision given varies with the technicians degree of skill. A cooperative working relationship with pharmacists is essential which assures that priority requirements of the department are met through proper allocation of resources. The associate completes a variety of procedures some of which are essential to departmental operations and are fixed while others are related to area of function and patient census. The Pharmacy Technician Associate has ability to read and interpret physician orders enter then into a pharmacy computer system and prepare medications for pharmacists. Ability to maintain adequate stock for all medications stocked within the pharmacy. Use of sterile technique for sterile compounding. Ability to efficiently manage inventory and enter data into a computer system. Familiar with medical terminology and pharmaceutical product names. Demonstrated ability to work with others. Has a basic understanding of computer systems and how they are used in health systems pharmacy.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Completion of a recognized technician training program OR two years working experience as a health systems pharmacy technician require
- Current California Certificate Pharmacy Technician Certificate required.
PREFERRED:
- College course work concentrated in science preferred.
- Previous certification in chemotherapy and hyperalimentation preparation preferred.
- Knowledge of Windows based computer systems preferred.
