Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Specialty Medical Assistant, you will be an indispensable clinical partner, elevating patient care and optimizing physician efficiency so they can provide the highest quality, seamless healthcare to our patients.

Every day you will expertly manage clinical documentation, perform ancillary healthcare services, and execute specific physician instructions. You will be expected to ensure precise and efficient patient visits, proactively support a high-acuity clinical environment, and serve as a dedicated Clinic Navigator to an assigned Provider.

To be successful in this role, you must combine advanced clinical proficiency with exceptional attention to detail, a strong aptitude for electronic health records, and a proactive approach to supporting high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Clinical Support & Patient Flow:
    • Serve as Clinic Navigator to an assigned Provider throughout the course of the patient’s care, ensuring a smooth and efficient patient journey in a high-acuity environment.
    • Prepare exam rooms, take vital signs, maintain proper inventory levels, and manage supply replenishment.
    • Accurately record data in medicine logs and other essential clinical documentation.
    • Perform specialty-related functions in the clinic requiring knowledge and integration of standards of care, data management, and independent judgment. Examples include, but are not limited to:
      • Assistance with bone marrow biopsies.
      • Arranging for genetic testing and managing results.
      • Assistance with high-level procedures (e.g., deep joint injections, ultrasounds, bone marrow aspirations, lumbar punctures, and biopsies).
  • Documentation & EMR Expertise:
    • Expertly manage clinical documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
    • Accurately enter data into patient records and charts, ensuring comprehensive and up-to-date information.
    • Act as a "super-user," efficiently and effectively navigating the clinic’s assigned medical record system.
  • Patient Monitoring & Communication:
    • Identify normal and abnormal symptomatology through high-acuity environment experience.
    • Report specific urgent symptoms to the Provider STAT and ensure a closed communication loop on all urgent symptoms and critical lab results.
    • Interface daily with multidisciplinary clinical teams (e.g., pharmacy, chemotherapy, infusion nursing, hospital teams including OR and Imaging) to ensure successful scheduling of complex patient needs (e.g., blood transfusions, hydration, ER admission, hospital admission, STAT imaging/lab, home health/hospice).
Job Requirements

Required

  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Training Program.
  • 3 Years of experience in high-acuity specialty setting for example: Pulmonology, Oncology & Hematology, Infusion, Maternal & Fetal Medicine, Neonatology, Gynecologic Oncology, Neurosurgery, Surgical Oncology, Peds Cardiology.
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, within 90 Days of hire.
