Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our RN LPS Intake Coordinator, you will serve as a vital leader within our interdisciplinary team, acting as the primary clinical decision-maker for patients entering the Psych Acute Adult unit at Community Hospital of San Bernardino. You will leverage your specialized licensure to perform high-acuity psychiatric assessments, ensuring that each patient is placed in the most effective level of care.

Every day you will collaborate with staff psychiatrists to evaluate patient mental health needs and oversee critical outreach activities for our Psychiatric Acute Department. You will remain dedicated to upholding our hospital’s mission and core values while participating in the continuous quality improvement processes that define our standard of care.

To be successful in this role, you must possess a current California Registered Nurse license and LPS designation, alongside a deep understanding of psychiatric illness and state-mandated clinical guidelines. You must also demonstrate the ability to maintain calm, decisive professional judgment while operating within a fast-paced, acute behavioral health environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive initial psychiatric assessments to determine appropriate levels of care for incoming patients.
  • Work in close partnership with psychiatrists and interdisciplinary teams to facilitate effective treatment planning and crisis intervention.
  • Oversee departmental outreach initiatives to ensure community engagement and adherence to mental health policy standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with the California Department of Consumer Affairs guidelines and all hospital nursing policies.
  • Actively contribute to departmental strategic goals, quality improvement projects, and internal process-driven activities.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment by adhering to the regulatory standards set forth by the Interdisciplinary and Psychiatric Credentialing Committees.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum of two (2) years acute psychiatric experience in nursing required. 
  • California Registered Nurse License (RN-CA) Required. 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications required
  • LPS annual designation through San Bernardino County required within 90 days of hire. 
  • Community Liason program is required within 90 days of hire. 
  • Non-violent crisis intervention program required within 90 days of hire.
