Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Surgical Tech  in the designated scrub role, reports to the designated circulator and in conjunction with R.N. circulator, provides quality care for all assigned patients, adult and geriatric with special skills specific to Cardiac/Open Heart cases. Assists in assuring readiness of O.R., demonstrates technical competence and knowledge related to equipment, instruments and supplies utilized in scrub role. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of St. Bernardine Medical Center. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support St. Bernardine Medical Center's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities.

  • Is a role model for the Hospital's Patient Satisfaction effort, i.e. demonstrates AIDET principles when interacting with customers, subordinates and colleagues.
  • Assumes the initiative to assist in patient transport to O.R., and is accountable for participation in patient pre-0p condition, correct procedure, patient and surgeon. Uses proper identification of patient, procedure and surgeon by reviewing with the patient verbally as well as checking the consent, chart and I.D. band. Implements age-appropriate safeguards for patients of various age groups. Participates in procedural pause with audible agreement and verification.
  • Assumes the initiative to assist in patient transport to O.R., and is accountable for participation in patient pre-0p condition, correct procedure, patient and surgeon.   • Demonstrates knowledge of body alignment anatomy, physiology and safety when positioning patient for surgical procedure. Assists circulator if necessary applying principles of body mechanics and assuring that bony prominence and superficial nerve pathways are well padded. Participates in securing patient to operating surface with appropriate protective straps.
  • Insures room is clean for start of day. Checks for cleanliness throughout the day of all equipment and furniture.

  • Makes sure case is picked and complete. Completes case picked with all needed supplies and equipment ready and in working order. PRN items are in readiness as well. Assures wipe-down of cardiac O.R. and all necessary equipment and supplies for cardiac surgery.

We are offering to qualified and experienced candidates a sign-on bonus not to exceed 10% of salary for this position.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Minimum 1 year open heart surgical tech experience in an accredited open heart program in an acute care facility.,
  • AHA Basic Life Support - CPR
