The posted compensation range of $26.39 - $31.56 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Responsibilities
The Laboratory Assistant, reporting to the Laboratory Director and working under the authorization of the Medical Director and Clinical Laboratory Scientist, performs a variety of laboratory activities and procedures as defined by California Administrative Code, Title 17, Section 1034.1. This role ensures the accurate collection and preparation of specimens while adhering to regulations governing unlicensed personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipunctures, heelstick, and fingerstick procedures to collect blood specimens for laboratory testing across all age groups, including neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
- Assist in laboratory activities that comply with the scope of unlicensed personnel, ensuring no part of manual or automated procedures requiring measurement, calculation, or interpretation is conducted.
- Collaborate with Clinical Laboratory Scientists to ensure all laboratory results are critically reviewed, verified, and validated before release.
- Uphold the Mission and Core Values of St. Bernardine Medical Center through professional conduct and reliable specimen collection.
- Contribute to the hospital’s strategic plan by actively participating in quality improvement and process enhancement initiatives.
This position requires attention to detail, technical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results. The Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the diagnostic and patient care services of St. Bernardine Medical Center.
Qualifications
- Minimum of six (6) months as a laboratory phlebotomist is required.
- California Certified Phlebotomy through the Department of Public Health required. California Phlebotomy Certification
