Responsibilities
Responsible for initial decontamination of instruments post surgical procedure inspection and maintenance of instrumentation packaging for appropriate sterilization process supervision and/or completion of cold disinfecting process. Facilitates instrument purchase under direction of the specialty coordinators; Rotation of sterile instruments in designated storage areas to assure presentation and maximum utilization of items within appropriate shelf life and sterilization date period; Communicating need for upgrading or replacement of instrumentation; Transport of patients delivery of surgical specimens with necessary documentation; Share in responsibility for cleaning documentation and participation in maintenance and spore testing of unit sterilizers and washer sterilizers. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of St. Bernardine Medical Center. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support St. Bernardine Medical Center’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one year experience as an Instrument Technician or Central Service Technician or relevant instrument processing experience
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and nomenclature of equipment used in the department
- Certification with Sterile Processing preferred
