Responsibilities

The Unit Clerk is responsible for secretarial functions phone courtesy medical records and overall clerical support for the Intensive Care unit.

They provide continuous observation of telemetry monitors to identify normal and abnormal rhythm and seeks intervention necessary to ensure patient safety. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of the Organization. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Knowledge of general ICU and Medical/Surgical unit activities and organization.
  • High level of concentration and attention to detail. Able to do work in spite of frequent interruptions. 
  • Ability to read write and spell in English.
  • Ability to read work product of others computer/monitor screens and computer printouts.
  • Demonstrated skills in dealing with the public and telephone courtesy. 
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the operation of the telemetry monitoring system.
  • Successful completion of basic arrhythmia course and bi-annual renewal required. 
  • Internal basic arrhythmia and lethal arrhythmia assessment test with score of 85% or better.
  • Successful completion of a unit clerk training course or equivalent experience in an on-the-job orientation.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS (CPR)

Preferred:

  • Telemetry experience preferred.

  • A minimum of six (6) months recent acute care experience as a unit clerk preferred.

  • Previous computer and/or electronic health record experience preferred.
