The posted compensation range of $34.50 - $43.62 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Responsibilities
The Marriage and Family Counselor provides therapeutic services to individuals, couples, and families within a rural health clinic setting. The counselor will work closely with patients to address emotional, psychological, and relational challenges, providing evidence-based therapy to improve mental health, communication, and overall well-being. This position will promote mental health awareness and support in the community, particularly in rural areas where access to counseling services may be limited.
- Provide individual, couples, and family therapy to patients, including those dealing with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship problems, grief, and life transitions.
- Conduct thorough assessments of patient needs, including mental health history, family dynamics, and personal goals.
Develop personalized treatment plans and goals based on clinical assessments and patient input. - Use evidence-based therapeutic techniques (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, family systems therapy) to support clients in achieving treatment goals.
- Provide crisis intervention when needed and make appropriate referrals for higher levels of care if necessary.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including primary care providers, psychiatrists, and social workers, to coordinate care for patients.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including progress notes, treatment plans, and session documentation, in accordance with clinic policies and confidentiality requirements.
- Educate patients and families about mental health, coping strategies, and resources available within the community.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, including staying current with best practices and relevant research in marriage and family therapy.
- Support the clinic's mission by actively participating in team meetings, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
Experience and Education:
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy
- CA Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Previous experience providing therapy in a clinical setting
- Knowledge of rural health challenges and cultural considerations related to providing therapy in a rural setting.
- Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with patients and their families.
- Compassionate, empathetic, and nonjudgmental approach to therapy.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and ability to maintain accurate patient documentation.
- Willingness to work in a rural, community-focused healthcare setting, serving diverse patient populations, including low-income individuals, families with deep generational roots in the area, and other underserved communities.
