Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for technical, clerical and transportation duties for the department and is involved with the preparation, distribution, and delivery of medication. The pharmacy intern also performs professional duties as related to pharmaceutical care which includes reviewing medication orders, performing appropriate clinical interventions with prescribers, and providing drug information. All work is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The pharmacy intern will also demonstrate competency in patient care for patient population served. Other duties within scope of practice may be assigned by supervising pharmacist. The intern may be required to work at another GSSA facility. Upon graduation from Pharmacy School, the Pharmacy Intern may transition into the Graduate Intern Pharmacist position.
Qualifications
Required:
Currently in pharmacy school
Current registration as a pharmacy intern with the California State Board of Pharmacy
Provide education to patients, staff and physicians in a professional manner
Required Skills:
Demonstrated knowledge of legal restrictions on the activities of pharmacy interns, Federal and State regulations relating to pharmaceutical transactions, medical abbreviations, pharmaceutical terminology and calculations. Presription processing, aseptic technique in the preparation of intravenous admixtures and total parenteral nutrition. Safe handling of antineoplastic/chemotherapeutic agents, generic or trade names of medication, extemporaneous prescription compounding of sterile and non-sterile products.
