Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Transport/Patient Care Assistant, you will provide vital support by safely and efficiently transporting patients throughout the facility, while also offering direct patient care assistance, ensuring comfort and continuity during their healthcare journey.
Every day you will transport patients to and from departments (e.g., imaging, therapies, admissions, discharge), assist with patient mobility, and provide basic patient care such as turning, repositioning, and feeding. You will be expected to ensure patient safety during transport, maintain cleanliness of transport equipment, communicate effectively with clinical staff, and respond promptly to patient care needs, all while prioritizing patient comfort and dignity.
To be successful in this role, you must possess strong interpersonal skills, a compassionate demeanor, and the physical stamina to assist patients and navigate a busy healthcare environment efficiently.
- Transports patients utilizing appropriate equipment in a safe and efficient manner, communicating with the nursing unit, hospital department and the patient
- Demonstrates ability to discern that the correct patient has been identified for the intended transport location. Obtains relevant clinical information from the medical record, including verification of physician order, as appropriate
- Demonstrates sound knowledge of technical skills necessary for performing ECGs, including all appropriate documentation
- Applies knowledge of infection control principles in all patient and staff interactions, including proper cleaning and maintenance of transport equipment
- Attends department meetings on a regular basis, maintains current knowledge of medical center policies and procedures, and requests assistance when needed
- Demonstrates knowledge of Joint Commission requirements, and stays up to date on relevant regulatory changes
Required
- High School Diploma/GED
- Previous work experience as a Transportation Aide (may waive based on operational needs)
- Basic Life Support - BLS through an American Heart Association provider
Preferred
- Experience in a healthcare environment
