Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Construction Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of physical tasks on hospital construction and renovation projects. This role supports the skilled tradespeople and ensures the efficient and safe completion of projects within a healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will be reliable, hardworking, and possess a strong work ethic, with a willingness to learn and follow instructions. This position requires adherence to strict safety protocols and an understanding of the unique sensitivities of working within a hospital setting.


Qualifications

MinimumQualifications:

  • Experience working in a healthcare environment is a plus
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs. or more)
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to safety
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic knowledge of construction materials and methods
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, and respirators

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in construction labor is preferred, but not required

Working Conditions:

  • Construction sites within a hospital environment
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and other construction-related hazards
  • Potential for exposure to infectious diseases
  • May require working evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed

The 267-bed hospital offers major medical services including a Level II Trauma Center as well as specialized Cardiovascular Care, Stroke Care, Orthopedics, Neurological Surgery, Comprehensive Cancer Care, Maternity Care, and da Vinci Robotic Surgery. It is the sole provider of obstetrical services, along with the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Shasta County. In addition, the hospital’s network of care includes Mercy Home Health and Hospice and Dignity Health Connected Living. Mercy Medical Center Redding is a member of the Dignity Health system and is a sister facility to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff and Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta.
