Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Health Unit Coordinator you will serve as the organizational heartbeat of our nursing station, expertly managing patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and vital medical record coordination to streamline daily hospital operations and enhance patient throughput.

Every day you will greet patients and families warmly, answer call lights promptly, manage multi-line communications, process physician orders accurately, and ensure clinical units are fully stocked with the necessary supplies and equipment for seamless patient care.

To be successful in this role, you will leverage exceptional customer service skills, acute attention to detail, and strong administrative expertise to support our nursing and medical staff while elevating the overall hospital experience for every patient.

  • Manage patient admissions, discharges, and transfers while maintaining accurate census activity worksheets and medical records

  • Coordinate interdepartmental communication, answer incoming telephone calls, and promptly direct patient call lights to the appropriate clinical staff

  • Follow up on physician orders, document actions taken, and perform routine chart audits to drive quality and clinical compliance metrics

  • Monitor unit needs, ensuring that equipment and supplies are readily available for examinations, treatments, and daily procedures

  • Facilitate patient transportation, coordinate support services (such as translators and social workers), and assist with admission and discharge preparation

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate or GED 

  • 1 year of related experience 

Preferred

  • 3 years of related experience
