Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Vein Center Assistant, you will help the Vein Center providers and clinical staff support the operations of the Vein Center so they can perform patient registration and provide comprehensive patient care under direction.

Every day, you will optimize workflow by escorting patients to exam rooms, conducting patient history interviews, and taking vital signs. You will be expected to prepare and organize exam rooms, maintain inventory, sterilize instruments, assist with pre and post-exams/bedside procedures, perform EKGs and ABIs as ordered, and accurately enter patient information into the EMR system.

To be successful in this role, you must efficiently manage patient workflow from escort to exit, adeptly prepare examination spaces, accurately gather patient history and vital signs, and competently assist with a wide range of clinical procedures, while maintaining meticulous record-keeping and ensuring timely, patient-centered care.

  • Optimizes work flow including escorting patients to exam room, carrying out patient history interviews, taking and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, providing patient information/instructions, exiting patients, etc.
  • Prepares and organizes and maintains exam rooms and work space including restocking supplies in patient rooms, nurses' stations and medication closet and maintains inventory, sterilizing instruments, etc.
  • Checks patients’ medical records for pertinent data; reviews and maintains current patient information/demographic data.
  • Assists with pre and post exams, bedside procedures, tests and other procedures as directed.
  • Assists with the application, changing and removal of wound dressings.
  • Conveys clinical instructions and provides education to patients under the direction of the practitioner or RN.
Job Requirements

Required

  • High school graduate or GED

  • Required One (1) of the following: One (1) year of patient care experience with the completion of an approved or accredited medical assistant training program that satisfies CAAHEP, ABHES or Dept of Education guidelines or meets the exception criteria outlined by the state of Arizona or Two (2) years of patient care experience supporting clinical staff and providers in a clinic or hospital setting

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certificate

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology or successful completion of a medical terminology course (in YRMC LMS system) within six months of hire

  • Ability to take the patient's vital statistics

  • Ability to assist with medical examinations and procedures

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, providing excellent customer service

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities/tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

  • Basic computer literacy and proficiency

Preferred

  • One (1) year of receptionist or admitting experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience performing EKGs
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience preferred; Cerner strongly preferred
