Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Specialist Patient Access, you will serve as a crucial first point of contact for patients, ensuring a seamless and empathetic experience while accurately facilitating their entry into our healthcare system.
Every day you will manage patient appointments, verify insurance information, accurately register patient demographics, and provide clear financial counseling regarding services. You'll communicate effectively with patients and clinical teams, resolve access-related issues, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and organizational policies. Responsibilities include utilizing various patient management systems, maintaining data integrity, and contributing to improving patient access workflows.
To succeed, you'll need exceptional customer service skills, strong attention to detail for accurate data entry and financial verification, excellent communication for clear patient and team interactions, and a profound commitment to patient advocacy, data accuracy, and optimizing the patient journey.
- Plans and coordinates daily patient access staff assignments, distribution of workload and follow up on tasks to ensure completion.
- Conducts orientation and training of newly hired staff. Conducts staff continuing education and training. Provides guidance and coaching to ensure staff members are familiar and compliant with established departmental goals, safety and security practices and procedures and pertinent local, state and federal regulations
- Uses technical knowledge to support the Patient Access (Admitting) department management and staff to ensure consistent understanding of established operating practices
- Provides input to department supervisor/manager on staff performance.
- Notifies supervisor or manager of all employee relations issues as well as any other issues that may have the potential to impact the department.
- Identifies areas for staff improvement and develops training plans to support staff in achieving the expected level of performance.
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of business process experience in a hospital or medical clinic e.g. PatientAccess, Insurance Authorization, Patient Financial Services, Patient Accounting, or Patient Scheduling
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge and understanding of processes and systems related to registration and patient eligibility systems
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing providing excellent customer service.
- Knowledge of the principles and processes for providing effective customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for delivered services and evaluation of customer satisfaction
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities/tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment
- Basic computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Windows, including experience using multiple software/computer applications simultaneously

- Previous leadership experience
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
- Cerner experience
