Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Perinatal Sonographer I utilizes high frequency sound waves along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in the monitoring and growth during pregnancy. Reviews/mounts test results for physician interpretation.
- Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures as prescribed by a physician including: Performs exams based on patient anatomy and habitus; positions patients for the proper view of the affected area; selects the appropriate scan images to be recorded; obtains essential information from patients, medical records and previous scans for clinical correlation.
- Prepares patients for interventional procedures; instructs patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure; helps patient transfer to exam table and ensures adequate patient
- immobilization to perform the scan; knows how to change scanning parameters to improve a scan.
- Obtains diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient with the transducer; provides documentation of ultrasound exam sufficient for physicians to interpret.
- Assists Radiologists and other Physicians in the performance of exams and procedures that require a physician.
- Performs exams in all areas of the hospital such as portables on units, portables in ED and portables in OR.
- Maintains the integrity of a sterile field during procedures that require one.
- Assists Imaging Support in locating films, printing reports, and assisting physicians.
Job Requirements
MINIMUM
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of an ARDMS or AART approved ultrasound training program.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) within 90 days of hire
