Responsibilities
LAB TECH IV RESEARCH – NEUROIMAGING JOB SUMMARY:
A research technician IV position is available at Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) working with Drs. Richard Dortch and Ashley Stokes in the Division of Neuroimaging Research. Our team focuses on developing and validating advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods in both preclinical and clinical settings to better inform on pathology including nerve degeneration and regeneration Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.
Description of duties:
• Perform routine and established lab procedures in support of the lab goals including processing tissue samples staining for histopathology prepare solutions and reagents and cell and tissue culture
• Work with preclinical disease models including behavioral assessments handling surgery and post-mortem tissue collection.
• Collect summarize and report results and outcomes of experiments.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as microscopes centrifuges sonicators etc.
• Assist in the training and mentorship of junior lab members including students and research assistants.
• Develop and document new protocols for lab procedures and ensure adherence to best practices.
• Oversee lab inventory ordering supplies and coordinating equipment maintenance.
• Perform data analysis assist in experimental design and contribute to scientific manuscripts.
• Coordinate research projects ensuring timelines and goals are met.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for lab organization compliance and safety protocols.
• Facilitate communication between research teams and collaborators.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in biology chemistry or other relevant science. 10 years of experience required. A strong understanding of laboratory techniques equipment and safety is required. Preclinical experience including in behavioral assessments neurosurgical techniques and histological methods is highly recommended. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively with excellent project management and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail experience mentoring others in a lab setting and the ability to manage multiple ongoing research projects efficiently.
Ten years of previous experience in a research, clinical, or other scientific environment required. Experience in training or educating students, technicians, and postdoctoral associates
required.
Preferred: If a Master's degree has been attained, five (5) years of previous experience in a research, clinical, or other scientific environment. Has made contributions technically and or made and continues to make contributions conceptually to grant applications and
peer reviewed research reports.
Education
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
Proficient in advanced computer skills required.
Advanced knowledge of laboratory practices and in sophisticated computer-based processes preferred.
Training
Possesses knowledge of laboratory techniques and the scientific method required.
Preferred: Proficient and proven knowledge of laboratory techniques, fiscal management, lab function and lab oversight. Contributes technically and continues to make contributions to reviewed research reports. Demonstrates an ability to continually improve performance. Has demonstrated ability in oversight and training of other lab personnel, including the lab head, and possess promise to be an expert in job role.
