Responsibilities

This is a full time position in Radiation Oncology Barrows Neurological Institute. We are focused on neuro oncology and the treatment of intracranial tumors. Our Department has state-of-the-art Varian TrueBeam Technology utilizing a 6D couch with Brainlab Cyberknife and a Philips Big Bore CT. The latest addition to our advanced technology is Zap-X gyroscopic radiosurgery for the brain the first machine of its kind in the world. Treatment planning is done utilizing Eclipse with ARIA as our EMR. The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic self-motivated and ready to hit the ground running in a fast-paced exciting work environment. You would be required to take call rotating with 5 other therapists. St. Joseph's is a teaching hospital cancer program credentialed with commendation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC). Approval by the CoC is given to facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. Receiving care at a CoC-approved cancer center guarantees a patient will have access to comprehensive care the best treatment options information about ongoing clinical trials access to cancer-related information a cancer registry and continual improvement of care. Responsibilities

  • Delivers the prescribed course of radiation therapy by checking prescription diagnosis and patient identification.
  • Explains procedures to patient delivers prescribed daily dose to patient observing radiation safety measures for patient and personnel.
  • Prepares room and equipment for patient according to prescription or simulation regarding immobilization devices etc.
  • Transfers patient to treatment couch giving attention to the special needs of the patient.
  • Observes patients for unusual reactions and for signs and symptoms of developing complications during treatment reporting reactions and complications to nursing and treating physician.
  • Maintains a variety of records including records of daily treatment; maintains and regularly reviews patient charts to eliminate errors.

Qualifications

MINIMUM

  • Certificate in Radiation Therapy and Associates of Applied Science in Radiography 
  • Minimum 36 months experience as a radiation therapist in a radiation oncology clinic 
  • Successful completion of an accredited education program in radiation therapy.
  • Registered as a Radiation Therapist, RT(T), by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (CT ARRT)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CT PRBLS)
  • Licensed as a Certified Therapy Technologist (CTT) by the Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Special Licensing (LIC CTT).
  • Advanced computer skills

PREFERRED

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 years of experience as a radiation therapist with increased responsibilities in a radiation oncology facility preferred.
