Job Summary and Responsibilities

Join the CommonSpirit Health Specialty Pharmacy team as a Pharmacy Technician II, where your skills will directly impact the lives of patients managing complex, life-threatening conditions. In this specialized role, you will go beyond traditional pharmacy tasks to provide the high-touch care required for patients undergoing therapies for transplant, HIV, multiple sclerosis, and cancer. Working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, you will ensure our patients remain adherent to their complex medication regimens, ultimately reducing healthcare costs and hospital readmission rates while operating within a highly regulated, accreditation-focused environment.

Every day, you will be the backbone of our specialty operations, handling the intricate workflow of prescription processing, insurance adjudication, and clinical support. Your responsibilities include interpreting and entering complex orders, managing high-dollar billing across commercial and government plans, and navigating financial assistance programs to ensure medication access. You will also oversee precise shipping logistics for temperature-sensitive and hazardous medications, ensuring every patient receives their therapy safely and on time. Your commitment to detail—from pharmaceutical calculations to meticulous error reporting—ensures that our pharmacy maintains the highest standard of patient safety and compliance.

Beyond the bench, you will serve as a critical communication link between our dispensing teams, clinical pharmacists, and the patients we serve. You will engage in proactive outbound adherence check-ups, resolve complex insurance discrepancies, and assist with prior authorizations to remove barriers to care. As a key contributor to our operational success, you will actively participate in process improvement initiatives, help maintain inventory integrity, and ensure our workflows meet all state, federal, and accreditation standards. If you are a certified technician looking to elevate your career in a dynamic, patient-centered specialty environment, we invite you to grow your expertise with CommonSpirit Health.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Certification: Maintain current Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) in good standing.
  • Specialty Expertise: Demonstrate a strong understanding of specialty pharmacy workflow, including high-dollar billing, insurance adjudication, and prior authorization processes.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere strictly to state and federal pharmacy laws, HIPAA regulations, and accreditation standards (e.g., URAC, ACHC).
  • Clinical Proficiency: Exhibit advanced skills in pharmaceutical calculations, sterile and non-sterile compounding, and the safe handling of hazardous/refrigerated medications.
  • Communication Skills: Provide exceptional customer service when triaging inbound patient calls and conducting outbound therapy/adherence follow-ups.
  • Operational Agility: Possess the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while documenting quality improvements and maintaining accurate, confidential patient records.
