Responsibilities
While this position provides Patient Logistics services to the patients of CommonSpirit Health across the United States this position must work on-site at our Phoenix AZ Virtual Hospital located at 3033 N. 3rd Avenue.
Job Summary / Purpose
The Patient Logistics Manager is responsible for the bed placement and transfer center and other activities support within the Command Center. The position is responsible to support the department and staff to carry out the patient logistics program and command center responsibilities. The Patient Logistics Manager collaborates with customers and staff to ensure efficient and effective communication with others, including but not limited to: hospital administration, nursing leadership or their designee, medical staff, physicians and transportation vendors to ensure patients are assigned rooms in an expedient manner utilizing all critical resources within the organization to ensure timely accurate patient throughput and care throughout the continuum. Primary responsibility will include supervising the patient logistics team including, clinical coordinators, patient logistics coordinators and patient logistics nurses in the Dignity Health/CommonSpirit Health Patient Logistics department within the Command Center.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Assists in the development and maintenance of protocols, algorithms, and work aids to support the operations of the patient logistics department
- Ensures staff has the tools they need to effectively and efficiently facilitate placement of patients in the appropriate facility
- Assist in the development and facilitate orientation of new staff
- Compiles data for the purpose of quality assurance and compliance with organizational and department policies, work aids, and algorithms
- Holds Patient Logistics staff accountable to the established standards
- Participate in Patient Logistics growth and improvement
- Support program director and manager in preparation of reports, program material, research, data collecting and analysis for various meetings and or programs
- Manage Patient Logistics/Command Center in accordance with the established work aids and algorithms and support staff in learning and upholding these work processes
- Lead supervisory support to Patient Logistics Coordinator and support of Patient Logistics RN’s and other staff as needed
- Function and lead independently with self-initiative and discipline
- Other duties as assigned to meet the program and corporate needs
Proficient in Patient Logistics Coordinator and RN roles:
Performs when necessary:
- Collect objective/subjective data for effective and appropriate placement of patients.
- Collect objective/subjective data for effective and appropriate transfers of patients
- Determine facility designation based on diagnoses, planned procedure and level of care requirements
- Maintain constant communication with both internal and external sources of information concerning patient transfers
- Utilize nursing knowledge and assessment to prioritize patient bed assignments and transfers based on urgency of patients’ condition and utilization of available beds throughout the facilities
- Communicate effectively with hospital staff to support efficient patient flow
- Responds efficiently during emergency situation for appropriate transfer of all patients
- Make judgments, decisions and modify patient placement/transfer priorities based on evaluation
- Perform legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures
- Proficient and competent with computerized documentation
- Accept responsibility and accountability for own decisions and behaviors
- Recognize , accept and cooperate with direction from facility leadership
- Participate in orientation of new staff
- Serve as resource to staff from other hospitals and vendors
- Continue education by attending non-mandatory education offerings specific to area of practice
- Maintain awareness of issues related to nursing profession
- Provide measurable written goals appropriate to level of experience during annual appraisal process
- Demonstrate effort to achieve pre-set goals throughout the year
- Maintain a safe working environment by utilizing appropriate resources, protocols, procedures, and communication to appropriate personnel
- Apply safety precautions and principles to patient care, including all National Patient Safety Goals
- Communicate clearly and effectively using proper communication etiquette
- Use medical terminology accurately
- Include reporting abnormalities or change in patient condition to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
- Participate in service line growth and CommonSpirit Health quality initiatives Including patient satisfaction and core measures

Qualifications
Required Minimum Experience and Education
- RN with 3-years of clinical experience, one to include acute hospital
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Health related field, or Public/Business Administration or a combination of education and experience leading to equivalent preparation and competence for the role.
- 1 Year experience preferably with CommonSpirit or affiliates
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of customers including patients, providers, hospital and office staff, health plans, medical groups, internal departments, community resources, and peers
- Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking skills toward making appropriate decisions, as well as in a team environment
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Detail oriented
- Excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to meet timeframes
- Ability to learn quickly and retain complex information
Required Licensure and Certification
- Current RN license in the applicable state(s)
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training
- Proven proficiency with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office applications
- Familiarity with TeleTracking, , Cerner and Cisco phone management system or comparable preferred
- Pulling Up to 20 lbs. of force to initiate and/or maintain Occasionally
