Responsibilities

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Investigational Drug Pharmacy Technician to support the operations of our Investigational Drug Service (IDS). In this specialized role, the technician assists pharmacists in handling, preparing, and distributing investigational and study-related drugs used in clinical trials. The position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining study integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the receipt, inventory, storage, preparation, and dispensing of investigational drugs per study protocols, sponsor guidelines, and institutional policies.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all investigational product activities, including drug accountability logs, temperature monitoring, and chain of custody documentation.

  • Prepare drug shipments and returns in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), FDA regulations, and sponsor requirements.

  • Label investigational drug products according to protocol specifications and regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate with clinical research coordinators, principal investigators, and sponsor monitors to support protocol adherence and audit readiness.

  • Ensure investigational drugs are stored and handled in secure, controlled environments according to manufacturer and sponsor requirements.

  • Participate in the compounding of investigational medications when required, following USP guidelines and institutional policies.

  • Perform regular audits of inventory and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Assist with training and orientation of new staff or trainees in investigational drug procedures.


Qualifications

Requirements:

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a pharmacy technician training program 

  • Minimum 1–2 years of pharmacy technician experience, preferably in a hospital or research setting preferred

Licensure:

  • Active Pharmacy Technician Certification (e.g., PTCB or ExCPT) and state licensure as required.

Special Skills:

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
