The posted compensation range of $18.00 - $23.30 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), you will serve as the central administrative and communication hub for the nursing station, ensuring efficient patient flow and supportive operations.
Every day you will perform clerical/reception duties, manage supply/equipment requests, and handle admissions, discharges, and transfers. You'll maintain records, check charts, obtain documents, and process/transfer orders. You will also answer call lights and incoming calls, directing them appropriately, and may assist with medication retrieval/delivery.
To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and rapid multitasking. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for interacting with patients, families, and the healthcare team, with a strong commitment to supporting patient care.
- Enhances the hospital experience of the patient and their family members through strong customer service skills and actions appropriate to the particular floor. Items may include, but are not limited to greeting activities, patient rounding, call light response and alert of appropriate staff, patient/family education, acting as a resource for certain programs, discharge phone calls
- Participate in value added activities as appropriate given staff, leadership, department and patient needs
- Participate in administrative tasks that drive quality and core metrics. Activities may include, but are not limited to chart audits, auditing for clinical compliance or program compliance
- Follow-up on physician orders and document actions taken in the medical record
- Monitors the needs of nurse/physician during examinations, treatments, and procedures, and assists nursing in patient care with the appropriate competency and training
- Anticipates the needs of the unit by ensuring all supplies and equipment are available for efficient patient care
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
Preferred
- 3 months related experience in an acute care setting
- Medical teminology and Health Unit Certification strongl preferred
