Job Summary and Responsibilities
The SURGICAL, TRAUMA and MEDICAL INTENSIVE CARE UNITS at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center are committed to the highest level of patient satisfaction. Serving the critical care adult population, each "dedicated" unit consists of 8-beds and offers an exciting, challenging opportunity for nurses to care for the very highest acuity patients in a 1:2 or 1:1 nurse to patient ratio. All units report to one Nurse Manager; nurses are hired specifically for each unit yet have an opportunity to cross train.
JOIN US NOW as we are seeking a HEALTH UNIT COORDINATOR (HUC) who is passionate about the health and well-being of our patients to attend the nursing station, answer patient call lights and in-coming telephone calls, direct calls to appropriate personnel; perform clerical and reception duties for patient admissions, discharges and transfers, physician/healthcare team orders; obtain/maintain and ensure accuracy and completeness of patient records and documentation, communicate and maintain Census Activity and other pertinent records; and request supplies, equipment and services as directed. The HUC may assist nursing in the retrieval and delivering of medications per the unit standard.
Located in Phoenix, AZ, this position is critical to the success of St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Center and requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Dignity Health.
The Health Unit Coordinator attends the nursing station, performs clerical and reception duties, and requests supplies, equipment and services as directed. Performs clerical duties for patient admissions, discharges and transfers. Maintains Census Activity Worksheet and other pertinent records. Checks patient charts for completeness. Obtains patient records/documents as requested. Processes physician and other healthcare team orders. Transfers orders to appropriate forms/departments/personnel. Answers patient call lights and in-coming telephone calls. Directs calls to appropriate personnel. The HUC may assist nursing in the retrieval and delivering of medications per the unit standard.
Job Requirements
Minimum:
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
- High School Diploma/GED
Preferred :
- Health Unit Coordinator certification
