Responsibilities
This position requires mandatory call nights, weekends and holidays.
The CTOR Department at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center plays a critical role within the Cardiac Service Line of Excellence supporting it's "Heart & Lung Institute", the only stand-alone lung transplant center in the Nation. With the hours of operation from 6:30 am to 7pm, the CTOR currently has seven surgical suites conducting over 1500 cases a year. The staffing ratio for these cases includes two RN circulators, a cardiothoracic scrub technician, and Physician's Assistant. Additional staff includes a clinical monitoring technical and staff perfusion.
The CV Technologist assists physicians and nurses during cardio-thoracic, vascular, organ procurement and transplant surgical procedures. Able to deliver safe, competent care. Responsible for maintaining the sterile field, being constantly vigilant that the scrubbed members of the team adhere to aseptic/sterile technique. Assembles and processes sterile instrument trays and equipment. Expedites the operative procedure by anticipating the needs oft the Surgeon. Provides procedural circulating support. Performs instrument, sponge and equipment counts.
Responsibilities:
- Assists circulating nurses in set up surgical procedures according to physician's preference, standards of care, and
hospital protocol - Assists with all phases of organ procurement
- Complete and accurate ABO verification documentation
- Completion of Organ Harvest Call Sheet log
- Sponge Accountability: Follows Count Policy and Procedure using the sponge accounting process

Qualifications
Minimum:
- HS Diploma /GED
- Completion of Surgical Technician or Cardiac Cath program
- AHA BLS and related acute clinical care experience
Preferred:
- Three years surgical technician or CVOR/cardiac cath experience
