Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

This position provides therapeutic management for patients with speech, language and/or cognitive disorders.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Provides direct treatment to patients to meet communication needs in the areas of augmentative communication, cognitive rehabilitation, life skills, expressive language, and receptive language, as deemed appropriate by the supervising speech-language pathologist
  • Provides direct treatment assistance, excluding dysphagia. May provide feeding for nutritional purposes.
  • Conducts speech and language screenings without interpretation, utilizing screening protocols established by the supervising speech-language pathologist
  • Documents patient progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting establish objectives as stated in the treatment plan and report this information to the supervising speech-language pathologist
  • Assists the speech-language pathologists with informal documentation during an intervention session (collecting and tallying data as directed by the speech-language pathologist), prepare materials, and assist with other clerical duties as specified by the supervising 
  • Educates the patient and the caregiver about the goals of the program, methods of accomplishing goals, how to perform the home program and injury prevention.
  • Participates with the speech-language pathologist in research projects, in-service training, and public relations programs.

Qualifications

Required Licensure and Certifications:

  • Approved Training Program
    • a post secondary training program that has approval by the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology to offer specific coursework and practical leading to licensure as a Speech-Language Pathology assistant.
    • One of the following degrees or certifications from a regionally-accredited program
      • Associate's Degree in SPL assisting
      • Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders
      • Post Baccalaureate certificate in Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in SPL
  • Current OR SPL
  • AHA BLS within one (1) month of hire

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skills to work independently essential. 
  • Ability to speak, read and write English effectively is essential. 
  • Ability to apply technical/professional knowledge as appropriate. 
  • High degree of accuracy is required.
  • Ability to utilize computer to access e-mail, education and electronic medical record/order entry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of experience
