Responsibilities

Job Summary:

Plans, organizes and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of physical therapy. Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment team. Supervises work of support personnel.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluates and assesses the patient’s abilities and limitations.
  • Establishes plan of treatment and goals with patient based on the referral and evaluation of functional skills; joint mobility; gait; muscle strength, tone, and coordination; sensation tests; and other measures to ensure rapid patient recovery.  Plan for discharge is included in initial evaluation and are discussed and coordinated with the patient and physician.
  • Implements therapy or supervises therapy provided by LPTA, PT Aide, or PT Student according to the established plan, utilizing appropriate procedures, equipment and techniques within the scope of physical therapy.
  • Educates patient, family, or caregiver about goals of the program, methods to accomplish goals, home exercises/activities, and injury prevention. 
  • Provides appropriate treatment documentation.
  • Re-evaluates patients, assesses their progress and makes recommendations regarding discharge.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from an APTA accredited school of Physical Therapy.

Required Licensure and Certifications:

  • Current license to practice Physical Therapy in the State,
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification, Level C, or obtain certification within one month of employment, through AHA

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Incumbents in this position must maintain a current knowledge of safety issues needed in the treatment of patients, especially regarding body substance precautions and body mechanics to protect self, patients, and personnel working with therapists. 
  • The incumbent must abide by the ethical guidelines as outlined by the American Physical Therapy Association. 
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and use time management skills, problem solve, and productive communication. 
  • Must possess a high degree of precision and accuracy. 
  • Good written and oral English communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.
