Responsibilities

Job Summary:

In addition to all functions of the Non-Invasive Cardiology Technician, the Echocardiography Technologist is responsible for performing all diagnostic echocardiography procedures in the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) guidelines.  Performs diagnostic procedures including: 2-D, M-Mode and Doppler in Transthoracis and Transesophageal Echocardiograms.  Uses skills to combine physics, electrophysiology and clinical diagnosis to provide complete accurate data to make informed Echocardiographic interpretations.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs Echocardiographic procedures in a timely manner; documents required information and communicates to physicians and direct care staff pertinent information. 
  • Uses asculatory findings, Doppler Physics and Ultrasound Anatomy to assess patients during Transthoracis and Transesophageal Echocardiograms and Exercise and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms.
  • Uses advance understanding of cardiovascular systems to assess patient conditions and situations for performing procedures.
  • Completes all documentation including worksheets, video, chart recording and digital archiving.
  • Follows departmental policy and procedure for performing and processing all procedures including: proper scheduling, ordering, coding and charging, computer entry, coping, filing and distribution.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one year experience in Echocardiography. 
  • Minimum of two years in Cardiology procedures as a Cardiovascular tech.

Required Licensure and Certifications:

  • Current AHA BLS certification (within one year of hire)
  • Current AHA ACLS certification (within one year of hire)
  • Current registry in Adult Echocardiolography or registry eligible in one of the following:
    • Registered Diagnostic
    • Cardiac Sonographer
    • Registered Cardiac Sonographer
    • Registered Cardiovascular Technologist

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skills to work independently is essential. 
  • Must possess good written and oral English communication skills. 
  • Analytical and clerical ability is necessary to effectively provide care, interpret data and accurately document findings. 
  • Must have an advanced knowledge of cardiology procedures. 
  • Ability to operate various types of electronic equipment, clinical equipment and computers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College level courses in biology, chemistry, and electronics
