Responsibilities

Accountable for the management of the Medical Staff Services function: this includes supervision, coordination, and facilitation of the medical staff services function.  will continually identify, monitor, and implement key measures and processes that are intended to improve/enhance the medical staff services role as related to the quality and financial position of the Health System, Hospital and department. Responsible for credentialing/privileging of medical staff and allied health professionals and any related administrative and regulatory duties that impact the Medical Staff Services department. These duties include but are not limited to the following: management/participation in credentialing/privileging activities, professional liability reviews, IT systems administrator for MSS, participation in medical staff committee and service meetings, supervision of employees, written/verbal correspondence with external agencies or individuals, continuous quality improvement, and management of the daily operations of the Medical Staff Services function.

Initial Appointment & Reappointment:
Responsible for credentialing and reappointment of medical staff/allied health professionals, in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws and regulatory mandates.
Reviews credentials files for accuracy and completion, prior to presentation at Credentials Committee.
Medical Staff Committee and Service Meeting:
Direct and oversee minutes for all medical staff committees and service meetings ensuring compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws and regulatory requirements.
Manage coverage of medical staff committee and service meetings with available recording secretaries within the department and other hospital departments.
Personnel Management:
Responsible for supervision and professional development of MSS staff.
Responsible for the cross training of staff, as needed, to create efficient work processes in order to ensure workflow continuity.
Manage day to day operations of MSS department.
Regulatory and Compliance:
Assists Director MSS/Risk to ensure medical staff compliance with mandates of various regulatory agencies, including The Accrediting Agency(TJC).
Ensures compliance with medical staff bylaws and institutional policy as it pertains to Medical Staff Services.


Qualifications

Education and Licensure

*Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Experience

*Five (5) years leadership experience

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Skills Assessment:  - MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). - Proficiency with Med Staff Line required.

In addition, knowledge in areas listed below is needed: - Basic knowledge of TJC/CMS standards - Strong analytical skills - Team building and group dynamics - Basic organization of a medical staff, including Bylaws - Proficiency in computer skills. Must be able to: - Work independently with minimal supervision - Write and communicate effectively with excellent skills, including correct English grammar and sentence structure - Utilize strong organizational skills and have the ability to prioritize numerous projects - Exercise sound judgment, discretion, and exhibit initiative - Demonstrate a positive professional and personal image - Problem solve - Maintain confidentiality of information
