Job Summary and Responsibilities
In keeping with Dignity Health philosophy and values, this specialist provides a variety of specialty services to Outpatients and Inpatients in the perinatal/maternal/newborn setting. These services, include but are not limited to lactation assessment, support, education and consultation; instruction in various maternal/infant education programs, and facilitates the breast pump rental program.
- Provide specialized mother-baby and lactation support by maintaining current lactation knowledge/certification, assessing breastfeeding needs, and providing individualized education and support to mothers, newborns, and families.
- Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care through comprehensive patient assessment, individualized care planning, timely interventions, pain management, monitoring for changes in condition, and evaluation of patient responses to care.
- Educate, advocate, and support patients and families by addressing physical and emotional needs, promoting informed decision-making, providing culturally responsive education, and connecting families with appropriate resources.
- Promote newborn, patient, and workplace safety by following infection prevention and standard precautions, maintaining newborn security, identifying and reporting abuse or neglect, preventing falls and injuries, and responding appropriately to emergencies or patient deterioration.
- Collaborate as a member of the interdisciplinary team by communicating effectively during handoffs, coordinating care, appropriately delegating and supervising staff, maintaining accurate documentation, participating in quality improvement and education initiatives, and supporting professional standards and hospital policies.
Required
- One (1) year health education experience and lactation assessment, facilitation, and support experience, upon hire
- Registered Nurse: CA RN, upon hire
- Basic Life Support - BLS, upon hire
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, upon hire
- Certified Lactation Counser, upon hire
Preferred
- Bachelors Of Nursing or health education or related field, preferred
- Masters Other, preferred
