Clinical Laboratory Scientist
The posted compensation range of $57.0564 - $67.8221/hr is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
Job Duties:
1. Perform moderate and high complexity testing in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology,
Microbiology, Serology, and Urinalysis while validating and reporting results in compliance with
procedures, regulations, and turnaround standards.
2. Interpret and correlate test results, identify discrepancies, and promptly communicate critical
findings to appropriate caregivers.
3. Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments; perform troubleshooting, quality control,
proficiency testing, and quality assurance to ensure accuracy of results.
4. Maintain required records to demonstrate compliance with laboratory policies, regulatory standards,
and performance improvement initiatives.
5. Communicate effectively and professionally with physicians, staff, patients, and other stakeholders
to support safe and efficient laboratory operations.
6. Participate in professional growth by maintaining knowledge of lab-specific policies and procedures
and taking advantage of the available educational opportunities
Job Requirements
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a closely related field. Employer
will accept a foreign equivalent degree if in the same field
Experience Requirements:
24 months in a job offered, Medical Technologist, Registered Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory
Scientist, or closely related.
Special skills requirements:
1. Experience working in different sections of the Laboratory such as; Serology, Blood Bank,
Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology and Clinical Microscopy (Parasitology/Urinalysis),
Histopathology.
2. Experience collecting blood, receiving urine, stool and other specimens and processing them with
proper adherence to quality assurance programs of the laboratory.
3. Experience examining secretions and excretions of the human body by various electronics, chemical,
microscopic, bacteriologic, hematological, serologic and immunologic procedures and techniques
either manual or automated.
4. Experience evaluating and performing corrective actions using Quality Control specimens on various
clinical instruments.
5. Must have a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist) License from the California Department of
Public Health
6. Must have a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or International Medical Laboratory Scientist (IMLS)
Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
