Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

This position will contribute to the organization's mission and vision under the direction of the Director, Health IT Regulatory Oversight. Leading within CommonSpirit Health's Corporate Responsibility Program and within the Health Information Technology landscape. The position's focus is on Health IT Regulatory Compliance; including electronic health records, digital and consumer facing technology, and new IT innovations.

This position is responsible for managing activities through facilitation of Health IT Regulatory compliance reviews, creating metrics and finalizing documentation related to compliance risks. This position is also responsible for determining alternative controls to assist in creating mitigating strategies associated with identified Health Information Technology compliance concerns.

This position works closely with Clinical Services, Information Technologies, Cyber Security, Revenue Cycle, Health Information Management (HIM), Internal Audit, Legal Services Group, Risk Management, Corporate Responsibility staff and others as applicable.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies organizational risk as a strategic partner across multiple disciplines and markets (national, division and services lines). Conducts assessments, issue investigations, application reviews and industry healthcare IT compliance analysis.
  • Provides guidance as Health IT Compliance subject matter expert, enterprise wide, ensuring Health IT Regulatory Oversight compliance requirements are comprehensive and in alignment with organizational vision, policies, standards, state and federal laws.
  • Provides recommendations and documentation regarding compliance risks to core teams in remediation of findings; partnering with business owners to identify mitigating controls.
  • Creates and recommends business requirements, communicating with the Health IT Regulatory Oversight Director regarding compliance criteria that guides solution (e.g. system, application, etc.) design decisions.
  • Analyzes vulnerabilities to appropriately characterize Health IT Regulatory compliance risks and escalates as necessary, for risk remediation, working closely with leadership teams across CommonSpirit.
  • Provides expertise and support towards development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of policies and standards to address changes and/or revisions to current laws and regulations related to Health IT Regulatory compliance.


Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in health information management, health care administration, information technology, accounting, business, risk management, clinical, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in healthcare operations, regulatory compliance, risk management, audit, law, IT or similar field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with an electronic health record system with significant understanding of the health record applications and knowledge for the ability to complete electronic health record compliance monitoring functions.

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • One of the following certifications is preferred upon hire or required within first year of employment: CPHIMS, RHIA, RN, CHC or related credential.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

  • Applied working knowledge of information systems and healthcare environment with the ability to work with Information Technology staff to assist in the evaluation an interpreting of EHR and other healthcare IT systems to develop and maximize systems to provide compliance, efficiency and safety for the delivery of patient care.
  • In-depth understanding of the multi-disciplinary healthcare delivery environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the federal and state healthcare laws/regulations affecting electronic health records, and HIPAA privacy/security requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, and provide formal reports, prepared for leadership at all levels.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively in a large, geographically diverse system.
  • Solid analytical abilities with use of MS Office and other products with ability to create reports, graphs, presentations, etc.
