The posted compensation range of $16.83 - $23.77 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Peer Specialist, you will provide invaluable support, encouragement, and guidance to individuals drawing upon your own lived experience with mental health or substance use challenges.
Every day you will engage with individuals through active listening, sharing your recovery journey, and offering practical strategies for managing challenges and achieving personal goals.
To be successful in this role, you must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, a deep sense of empathy and compassion, and a demonstrated commitment to your own recovery.
- Experience in coping with life events successfully despite having a mental health challenge.
- Help individuals in setting and achieving their own goals.
- Maintain high standards of personal conduct. Teach and role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience. Conduct self in a manner that fosters one's own recovery. Share with consumers and colleagues personal recovery stories from mental health challenges. Be able to identify and describe the supports that promote recovery.
- Respect the confidentiality, rights, and dignity of the individuals served at all times.
- Serve as an advocate for patients through support of recovery based services, assisting individuals in making their own decisions in all matters when dealing with other professionals, and develop empowerment skills through self-advocacy and stigma-busting.
- Advocate for the full integration of individuals in the community of their choice and promote the inherent value of these individuals to those communities guided by the principle that individuals have the right to live in the least restrictive environment.
Required
- High School Graduate or GED., upon hire and
- Must have experience with own personal mental health challenges.
Preferred
- Experience as a Peer Support Specialist or working in a Psychiatric or Human Services setting
