Job Summary and Responsibilities
As a Forensic Examiner RN, you will provide highly specialized medical-legal care and compassionate support to victims of violence and trauma, meticulously collecting evidence and acting as a vital advocate.
Every day you will expertly conduct comprehensive forensic examinations, document injuries and findings with exacting detail, ensure chain of custody for evidence, and meticulously provide patient advocacy and emotional support, often testifying as an expert witness.
To be successful, you will demonstrate outstanding clinical expertise, strong attention to detail, and a resilient, empathetic demeanor, contributing significantly to justice and healing for vulnerable populations.
- Follow the nursing process which includes: assess, plan, implement, and evaluate. The nursing process is an ongoing process that can end at any stage.
- Assessment - Demonstrates a systematic, dynamic way to collect and analyze the following healthcare consumer data including: psychological, physiological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic and lifestyle factors. Completes an initial evaluation of patient needs and injuries. Completes sexual assault and domestic violence medical and evidentiary exam and collects forensic evidence when requested by the patient.
- Plan – Sets measurable and achievable short and long term goals according to standards of care based on the assessment by the nurse in collaboration with the healthcare consumer and multidisciplinary team. Provides initial support and crisis intervention sexual assault and domestic violence victims and their family members as needed. Links sexual assault and domestic violence victims to community resources, as needed, to ensure on-going care.
- Implement – Implements and/or modifies the plan of care using assessment data, clinical reasoning based upon standards of care and evidence based practice. This includes care coordination, education and discharge
- Performs technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety. Provides STD and pregnancy risk evaluation and explains prophylactic medications, following pre-established protocols, including collaboration with healthcare providers.
- Evaluate – Uses a systematic ongoing process to evaluate progress towards identified healthcare consumer goals. Revision of plan of care when needed involving the healthcare consumer and the multidisciplinary team to maintain privacy and safety.
Job Requirements
Required
- Graduate of a RN nursing program and 1-3 years with a minimum of two years acute care experience., upon hire and
- Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Education, 90 - days and
- Registered Nurse: NE, upon hire and
- Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire
Preferred
- Trauma Informed Care education, upon hire
