Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our SPD Tech, you will ensure patient safety and surgical efficiency by meticulously decontaminating, sterilizing, and assembling all medical instruments and equipment. Your precise work is fundamental to infection control and positive patient outcomes across clinical areas.

Every day you will expertly process surgical instruments, maintaining accurate documentation, testing equipment, and managing inventory according to strict protocols. You'll adhere to infection control standards, troubleshoot equipment, and contribute to a safe, efficient sterile processing environment.

To succeed, you'll need exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, excellent communication for coordination, and a profound commitment to sterile technique and patient safety. Self-motivation and adaptability are essential in this critical, fast-paced support service role.

  • Cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments and other medical equipment following established policy and procedure.
  • Inspects, assembles, packages and sterilizes medical devices following manufacturer's recommendations and established procedure.
  • Operates cleaning and sterilization equipment in the department according to manufacturer's recommendations and established procedure.
  • Performs biological tests and maintains recording devices on all autoclaves.
  • Inspects instruments to ascertain good working condition. Sends instruments out for repair or sharpening as needed.
  • Maintains neat, orderly work areas and sterile fields when in operating rooms.

This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate of GED.
  • Completion of a Sterile Processing Program or surgical tech program.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with surgical instrumentation.
  • Minimum two years prior sterile processing or surgical tech experience.
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Dist Supervisor or
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Dist Tech or 
  • Certified and Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or
  • Cert Sterile Processing Dist Tech (CST) 
  • AHA Basic Life Support (AHA BLS)
  • Fire Safety (within 90 Days by start date).


Preferred

  • Associates Other from an accredited institution.
  • Bachelor's Other from an accredited institution.
